In the premises of the dental clinic of Kymenlaakso Keltakangas Health Station, VOC values were observed to increase during operation. The maximum values in the measurements were around 60,000 units. For comparison, a typical clean office environment has a VOC concentration of around 2000-5000. VOC compounds, i.e. volatile organic compounds, are a significant cause of indoor air problems.
Kymenlaakso’s principle is to try to solve indoor air challenges by finding out the condition of the premises, whether it’s a rental property or their own. Keltakangas Health Station was introduced to FOTONIT® coating with hygiene in mind, and VOC issues came up, which Certified Specialist for Indoor Air Quality Antti Ahola became interested in. Therefore, they were interested in trying Fotonit® Air -indoor air solution based on FOTONIT® photocatalytic coating.
When FOTONIT® coating is used to affect the indoor air, the coating is installed on the walls and ceiling of the premises, so that when the air moves and touches the treated surfaces, it removes organic compounds. The photocatalysis coating reacts with visible light and effectively destroys VOC compounds. The air circulating through the treated walls and ceiling feels significantly cleaner.
Fotonit® Air worked effectively for the indoor air problem, and the VOC values in the premises of the dental clinic collapsed. No other changes were made in the property, e.g. in relation to ventilation, to improve the indoor air. The comprehensive monitoring of indoor air continues, e.g. with measurements of treated spaces and monitoring of user surveys. In practice, the values have dropped with the coating to the level of a normal, healthy office environment.
“If exposure to VOCs can be reduced with some technique, then that technique should definitely be used. With the processing, the environment is healthier for employees and visitors to the premises, which is extremely important to us. Fotonit® Air helped us to reduce the harm caused by indoor air and improve hygiene at the same time. The treatment increases the safety of every customer and employee,” says Ahola.
Nanoksi recommends familiarizing with the Fotonit® Air treatment in all spaces that need help with indoor air challenges. The solution based on FOTONIT® photocatalytic coating is a safe, ecological and sustainable alternative for unsolved indoor air problems. The treatment applied to the ceiling and walls is not exposed to physical wear, but lasts on the surfaces for years.
“Fotonit® Air could very well be one of the more established tools to solve wider problems”, Ahola continues.
