Said Abubakar – A talent from Oxford to Tampere combines science and sustainable development

The latest addition to the Plasmonics team, Said Abubakar joined the company earlier this year from London shortly after completing his PhD in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Oxford. His thesis surrounded organometallic approaches to colloidal nanomaterials for photoelectrochemical applications – keen to apply his knowledge and experience, Said’s core role is to design and synthesise nanoparticles in the development of Fotonit® and other related products as a Senior Scientist for Plasmonics Oy.

Said grew up and attended school in the UK. He has always been driven by ability to use science to deliver greener and sustainable solutions, and believes he can continue to do this at Plasmonics.

He joined Plasmonics Oy following an interview and short visit and now finds himself adjusting to life in Tampere, Finland – of all places! Compared to the UK, Finland is a cold place (especially if you move in the winter time). “Lifestyles in London and Tampere are certainly different but I like it here”, Said says with a smile.

When not working, Said is very fitness orientated. He is a runner and when he doesn’t run, he is most likely outdoors or fencing. On more calmer days, Said is “into interior design and film photography”. Sounds like a good way to balance the work life!
